This 1910-B Straits Settlements 20 Cents piece is the final-year type coin struck during the short reign of King Edward VII. Minted under British administration at the Bombay Mint in India, it displays the incuse “B” mintmark integrated into the obverse design at the junction where the central arch of the King’s crown meets the jewelled headband.

Obverse

The obverse features the regal, right-facing robed bust of King Edward VII, designed by the celebrated Chief Engraver of the Royal Mint, George William de Saulles. The portrait retains sharp, elevated details across the intricate jewels of the Imperial Crown, the ermine collar of the robes, and the fine strands of the King’s beard. The classic legend “EDWARD VII KING & EMPEROR” frames the bust within a cleanly defined beaded border.

Reverse

The reverse features the denomination numeral “20” centred within a clean, beaded circle. Surrounding the inner ring is the complete legend “STRAITS SETTLEMENTS • TWENTY CENTS 1910”. The design elements are strongly struck and stand out sharply against the fields.

Surface, Patina & Lustre

Graded a premium About Uncirculated AU 58 by NGC, this specimen stands just short of mint state status. It displays original, uncleaned surfaces with a layered palette of attractive toning. Rich, smoky charcoal tones meet the outer fields and legends, transitioning into an elegant iridescence across the central profiles. Beneath this natural, protective patina lies an abundance of preserved original mint lustre that flashes warmly when rotated under a direct light source. High-point wear is trace and exceedingly minimal, limited only to the lightest friction on the highest curls of the hair and the central numeral.
